Hello,

My question is does the bible forbid tattoos?
I am thinking of getting something done.
The tattoo will be something religious, not random tramp stamps and so on.
I am debating between a plain cross,an angel,a Seraphim or a bible verse.
Maybe just all of them together ^_^
Some insight would be greatly appreciated.

 Stay safe

Leviticus 19:28
New Living Translation (NLT)
28 “Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.

Leviticus 19:28
King James Version (KJV)
28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.

Most versions say tattoos. I personally have 8 prior to my re-dedication. I want more, from a fleshly standpoint, but it would make a real bad witness getting more, because it is a sin, so I avoid it.

Hope this helps, God Bless Joe.

The Bible does not forbid tattoos explicitly.

The principle in play here is found in 1 Cor 6:12 and 1 Cor 10:23. Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial or constructive. The context of 1 Cor 10 is on whether a Christian was permitted to eat meat offered to idols. Paul's answer is yes - technically - but do so without stumbling another believer. If getting a tattoo might inadvertently trip up a younger Christian, you should seriously reconsider it.

If you happen to be a Jew the first covenant (ie Leviticus, et al) still applies as law, otherwise, no. The Law was only for Israel (Rom 2:12, 3:19).

The "body is a temple" argument - well it's true, but going down that road one can make a case for abstinence from alcohol, fast food, sugar, smoking, tap water, coffee, and even leaving the house. Let's not open that box.

Old Covenant/New Covenant. And study what exactly falls under each. :)

Best way to go about it, is it glorifying God or is it glorifying self?

If the Holy Spirit convicts you at all or if you even have ANY question that something is a sin, don't do it.

Romans 14:23
New Living Translation (NLT)
23 But if you have doubts about whether or not you should eat something, you are sinning if you go ahead and do it. For you are not following your convictions. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.

I didn't research it a lot, and the tattoo thing might be under the old Covenent, but the above still stands.

My nana always told me, your body is a house of the lord. How would you feel if someone spray painted a cross onto a church?

It stuck :P
