I was wondering which Bible translations are usually recommended. I've been reading through the New King James Version and it seems quite good.

Yeah, I got the same recommendation from WidowMaker, it seems to be really the choice of all the modern translations. Thanks for your input :)

to me it really depends on the persons reading style and reading level... some are more easily understood then others... as stated above i like the NIV also a fan of NLT

My reading level is extremely high (Joyce-level :P).

The more research I do, the more I lean toward NIV being the go-to translation.

I still have an urge to read the NAB since it's the "official" Catholic translation. And also the NKJV which has a sort of mystical Holy Spirit-influenced presence (well the KVJ specifically, but the language is a bit too archaic).

I tend to use the original KJV combined with NIV (that way I can look at both and compare)

NIV is good because they are constantly finding more copies of the 1st century manuscripts, and have tweaked it to the most accuracy based on the originals.

Some translations are closer to the original meaning than others (in certain scriptures)

I personally prefer the NASB bible as it is a better translation than the NIV (in my opinion). Not to say that the NIV isn't good, it is. It is very good. My preference though is the NASB translation. The ESV is a good one too.

After intensive research, I have decided to use the NKJV as a main version, and the NIV as a version to help me along with understanding.

Thanks for all the help!
