If its glorifying the self, its from Satan.

If its giving all glory to God, its from God.

They are opposites.

The message is either:

Me, Me, Me (Satan)

or

Him, Him, Him (God)

Not flaming/trolling, just curious, and saw this thread as a good opportunity to ask.

Why doesn't god want us to have an indulgent and self-gratifying life on earth while we get the opportunity?

Probably just a general question with an answer that's been said 1000 times, I'm just curious. Thanks.

When you do things for yourself, you tend to make yourself into an idol. This violates the first commandment. Even the most well-intentioned deeds to "help others" are for yourself, if they are not for God. This is what the first post means.

To answer "why not live to make yourself happy", because this gets into moral relativism. If you have no absolutes on morals, you cannot define what is or isn't right/wrong. Living a purely hedonistic lifestyle would always be at the expense of someone else, in one form or many.

To expand on the first statement, let's take the following example:
Let's say you go down to a homeless shelter and help out in the kitchen to feed them, maybe donate, whatever. You can claim this was a "good deed" for the homeless, but by doing so, you are proving it is not a purely selfless good deed only for them. By merely telling another person, you have changed it from selfless to selfish, because you are taking credit for it, rather than letting the action be what it is. This is why the Bible tells us to not let the right hand know what the left is doing when giving or doing charitable things.

YES PAUL!!!! AWESOME POST
Here it is!

Matthew 6

Giving to the Needy

Quote
1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Quote
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Paul specifically just said verse 2 out in easier to read form, which is awesome. I thought i'd just share this verse too, #2 is exactly what njaguar is trying to say, man I love it.

I'd like to add this part just gives me chills down my spine

"so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you"
Awesome verse...

Yes pretty much, self-pride is luciferian.

God calls us to humble ourselves.

"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (James 4:6)

"The meek shall inherit the earth."

"Love your enemies."

Totally opposite of our evil society's reasoning.

The truth is, sinful indulgences of the flesh do not give any real satisfaction.

Its only God who can do that, and he calls us out of the world.

First, call on Jesus as you are, sinner & all. He will do the rest.

I would like to continue this discussion at some point, but as Paul said this is not the place for any debates.

Well technically in Satanism - Yes and definitely with Judeo-Christian beliefs as Pride is one of the seven deadly sins...

No, if you boast about it to others and brag/etc, then it could be, but personally reassuring yourself u did something great is not a Satanic "act" IMO.
