What kind of message is that? Why the hell would I not want to trust myself?

Because the worship of the self is the way of man, the beast, the way of the world.

Man's fallen heart and thoughts are decietful.

God is opposed to the proud.

Basically what I get out of this is Always put God ahead. Don't think you can take on anything without Him. If you abide and trust in Him, the reward will be great.

I learned this the hard way....
I thought I could take control of a situation and I fell straight on my face.
Now I believe that if I would have done it with God by my side, it would have turned out differently.

He is meaning the proud as human beings, prideful people, not God himself.
