So I've been attending this specific church for about 12 years.. So basically.. My family wasn't doing well financially.. my father left.. and a single mother with five children to care by her own. I would think the church would be supportive.. but there so superficial and two faced. I would see the look in there eyes, they would look down on us... like we are bums. The teachers didn't understand me.. [ I was sort of a rebel.. father issues and such] and my other peers ostracized me. So after that incident.. I would barely go, probably once every two months. My mother still attends every Sunday, but I usually stay home. So this made me thrive into being a successful person in life... I would always donate.. help out friends and everything. But my mother tells me to pay tithe.. but I know most likely the church board of directors are going to pocket most of that money.

Is it wrong for me to not pay tithe? Can I pay my tithe as a donation to people really in need, like my formal self..
I was planning on giving money to children in 3rd world countries, going myself.. so I know they get 100% of the benefits.

I feel as though, every church I attend... I see Dollar signs in peoples eyes...

Those who teach you must or should be tithing are false teachers.

NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE pays the Biblical tithe today.

Leviticus 27:30-33, Numbers 18: The First Tithe - a tenth of crops and animals and commanded to take the tithe to the Levites.

Deuteronomy 14:22-27: The Second Tithe aka The Festival Tithe - a tenth of crops, plus add to that the firstborn animals, and take for the yearly feast.

Deuteronomy 14:28-29: The Third Tithe aka The Three-Year Tithe aka The Poor Tithe - a tenth of crops, kept at home, and invite the Levites, widows, orphans, stranger to eat.

Now, tell me. Which of the above three tithes commanded by God does anyone follow today?

The ONLY people in the Old Testament that were commanded to tithe were those who INHERITED THE PROMISED LAND WITH EVERYTHING ON IT. They got the land, house, animals, crops, etc. ALL FREE AND CLEAR. No mortgage payment or rent to pay. And THEY were commanded to tithe on the crops and animals and take it to the Levites who INHERITED the tithe INSTEAD OF the promised land with everything on it. No one else tithed. Wage earners did not tithe. Jesus didn’t tithe as a carpenter. Paul didn’t tithe as a tent maker. Peter didn’t tithe as a fisherman.

Tithing ended at the cross per Hebrews 7:5,12,18.

The New Testament teaches generous, sacrificial giving, from the heart, according to our means. For some, $1 might be a sacrifice, while for others, even giving 50% of their income might not induce a sacrifice. In the Old Testament, ONLY the farmers tithed, and it was equal percentage (a tenth). The New Testament teaches the principle of equal sacrifice instead of equal percentage. Equal sacrifice is much harder to achieve, if not impossible, than giving ten percent.

You should give from the heart, whenever you can afford it, to whoever you want to give it to. Those who attend church have a moral obligation to give something to help pay the bills. Give as you are led by the Spirit.

Yep exactly. Levi is not our high priest, Jesus is our high priest.

Give when you can, and not a set amount.

This isn't religion.

ive attended churchs that required tithing ( and put pressure on families , etc )
my advice is , dont pay ( clearly i dont think its wrong for you to not pay a tithe :) )

also , dont waste your money by giving it to charities ( 90% of what u give doesnt get given )
give to those you feel need it
if u dont know anyone , and still feel the desire to give , then get off your ass and find someone to give to
