I have been shutting out God over the past year as hard as I possibly can. I think that it has just hit me as to why. I quit playing guitar and got rid of all of my musical equipment because I was frustrated with the direction of the CCM music scene. I used to go to a worship arts college and was studying to earn a bachelor of ministry in music. I did the whole touring thing and I was disgusted with how some of these "big ccm artists" think about the music industry and about Christ and it made me frustrated. I ended up leaving that school and I now attend a local state university. I got to college and was involved in some Christian events and I began to realize how much I hated where christianity is, and where it is heading. The past year of my life has been ignoring God as much as I possibly can, and completely shutting guitar and music out of my life. I feel lost and I don't know what to do with myself anymore...

I have since changed my major to philosophy and am finding that it does not mesh well with Christianity at all.

My philosophy advisor is a former pastor and understands my struggles but he does not want to influence me to go either way.

I am finding it near impossible to believe anymore and I don't know what to do.

Any advice, prayers?

I'll pray for you. As a fellow musician and a fellow christian.

...make the time to get away from the hustle and the bustle and be alone with your thoughts . Be still and listen to what's going on inside and pray for direction .

I probably haven't prayed a sincere prayer in awhile; the one's I do say seem to be selfish. I find it hard to even want to talk to Him as I feel so angry about it.

There are other underlying factors but I'd rather not go too deep into them.....including an ex-fiance.

I'm not sure if that's in the contract or not: 'God I will follow you provided the circumstances of my life meet my approval and provided that I always enjoy what you call me

to do' .

You say, 'I probably haven't prayed a sincere prayer in awhile'. Unlike the human interactions you deal with everyday, there's is no keeping up appearances with God. You

don't pray your prayer, walk away, and God doesn't see you anymore. If you are angry at Him, He knows. You might as well tell Him directly, and, if you can get past that

just for a brief moment, ask for help.

It's not for His sake that you should seek Him.

I think the first thing you should do is stop shutting out God. "Today, if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts..." "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God", etc .... Don't worry about what you've done or where you are in your life, He has also promised "I will never leave you, nor forsake you."

Fix your heart and everything else will follow. The key to peace isn't in possessions or circumstances, we have the key all along. We just have to be willing to unlock the doors into rest.

The idea that God and philosophy do not mesh is not true!

Study Willilam Lane Craig, my favorite Christian philosopher.
