Last night I got bored at work and listed a few of the most common objections to Christianity. I plan to eventually compile a document listed roughly 3 points in answer to each of these objections. (I came up with 21 on my own, but these are the most common ones, I think.)

1. I cannot be a Christian because I do not believe in God.
2. Jesus Christ is really an offshoot of other miracle workers mentioned in pagan history and his life combines elements from several myths (i.e., the virgin birth, the resurrection).
3. God cannot exist because there is too much pain and suffering in the world.
4. The Bible cannot be trusted because it contains contradictions and errors.
5. I cannot be a Christian because Christians are too intolerant of issues such as abortion and homosexuality.
6. Christianity cannot possibly be true when there are hundreds of other world religions in the world.
7. Christianity claims that it is the only truth in the world and that it is the only way to heaven. Given all the religions in the world, this is simply an intolerant claim.

Please share with me some of the ones you have heard.

And it pretty much sums up the verse:

"The message of the gospel is foolishness to the perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God."

To the unbeliever, it seems foolish to think that God sent his son down to Earth, to die for our sins. But thats what happened.

EDIT: You pretty much got them all as far as I can think of right now.

3. is a really big one. People have a big habit of making God in their own image and we all want to be the God of our own lives.

Exactly, and they fail to realize that its SIN and MAN who is causing the suffering, not God.

I seen these people pick out a few so called 'faults' that God did in their eyes and that is enough justification for them not to believe in him.

A few examples are: God made Adam and Eve and gave them free will knowing that they would eat off the tree.

Their solution? No free will. Some of these people actually think that it is better to be mindless robots programmed like computers where we can't actually have a relationship with God or anyone else.
You can tell them to their face that you won't get a lot of satisfaction but they are stuck to their minds.

Another example is the book of Job where God allowed Satan to do whatever he wants to him. If you do read the book of Job first and foremost God did point Satan to Job but God did also say to Satan that you cannot touch Job or kill him. Furthermore at the end of the book of Job, Job asked God what the deal is and God's reply was "Were you there when I created the world?" As well as other stuff, I forget now but the thing is God is God. God can do whatever he wants.

Through this experience though Job received double of everything afterwards than he originally had. Also Job was able to have a deeper relationship with God because now he knows that God is the real deal instead of just sacrificing everyday like a morning routine.

Many Christians adhere to dogmatic groupthink, and expound upon word-for-word interpretations of specific Bible verses, and (taken out of context) these interpretations imply the antithesis of the greater meaning of the passage.

Many Christians are motivated by fear and insecurity, instead of being motivated to embrace the totality and wonder of God's creation.

Many other Christians are motivated by the expectation of a reward of some sort, be it heaven or blessings of various types, instead of being motivated to do the "right" thing exclusively because it is the "right thing to do".

Christians (and many Americans in general) have a skewed and perverted world view, based on believing what they see on television and the opinions of Christian concomitants. This belief is pervasive to the extent that facts, events, and even individual personal experiences are disregarded or ignored in favor of views that conform to the established hierarchal belief system.

Finally, Many Christians are motivated by guilt and remorse synthetically created through social pressure, instead of being derived from the actual moral values of the Gospel.

I am a Christian.

I am also Imperfect.

Part of my imperfection is the anger I feel at those who would be my friends, who bury their heads in the sand, act without thinking, and cling to half-truths as though they were the complete word of God.

Q: What is christianity?

A: It is the belief that a two-thousand-year-old jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat an apple off a magical tree in a wonderland.

Prime example of the verse quoted above. The perishing think the message of the bible is foolishness.

There are lots and lots of people that know that in their present state they are not worthy of heaven's glory, but they can't bring themselves to believe that God would love them enough to forgive them of all of their sins. This is something that greatly saddens me. They try to do good works thinking that they might be able to earn the right to enter heaven. However, love cannot be earned. Love can only be given and received. The love of God is greater than anything we can ever see, feel, touch, or comprehend. He IS love. This is what the good news of the gospel is all about. Put aside your logic, put aside your pride, and look deep down inside yourself. There is nothing you need more than to be loved.
