my aunts had a bit of a bad day (broken window, speeding ticket, repair man) and all of her friends are praying for her to have a better day.

wouldnt that kind of petty stuff just cheapen the whole idea of prayer?
i could understand if she was boke and had kids to feed and couldnt really afford this stuff but...shes not.

Yeah, I do see what you mean.

I tend to just pray for God's will, and give thanks in prayer.

"The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives."

Prayer can't be cheapened by volume. God can't be overwhelmed by prayers. I suppose it depends on the spirit in which the prayer is offered; whether it's perfunctory or not, but we're told to humble ourselves and pray. I see no reason to not pray about everything that troubles us.

I absolutely agree. God delights in our prayers and actually acts in ways that He otherwise would not have if we did not pray. The Bible tells us to "pray without ceasing." There are several other verses like "Ask and it shall be given you. . ." A good solid study on prayer would answer this. I recommend reading Andrew Murray, E.M. Bounds, and R.A. Torrey.

Pray in accordance with God's will. :)

"This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.' " Matt 6:9-10 (niv)

"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1 Tim 2:1-4 (niv)

"For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:40 (niv)

I forgot to add this one!

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6).
