The sixth commandment is "Thou shall not kill." And in the Bible it states that God ordered thousands of people dead.
So would God be breaking his own commandment?
If this isn't the right place for this, would like to know where to post this. Thanks.

It does but, keep in mind that the Bible has been interpreted many times. It is my beleive that God meant do not kill with out reason/ cause. There is a verse in the old testiment if I may paraphrase the reads somthing like if a man enter into your home at night strike him dead. God also along with authorising self defense, allows us to protect those whom can not do it thereselves. Man has made God so complecated. Love God and follow your beleifs( I beleive the Holy Spirit will guide this in his direction) and all will be fine.

the commandment isnt do not kill, its do not murder.

God didnt murder those people, they had become so sinful that he could no longer look apon them, and thus, passed judgement.

i like to think that it was an act of mercy by God towards the people who were following the right path rather then an act of violence towards those who werent.

Ah, It says he killed those who had become corrupted. So what would "corrupted" mean in this?
The Bible also says that all people had become corrupted, except for Noah's family.
Also, sorry this will be my last reply as it seems its in the wrong place.

Corrupted = sinful. In this case beyond saving and repentance.

God created everything. It is so above us that even trying to begin to describe what he does on your own is a false thing to do. But, God set the 10 for humans to live by. God lives by no rules.
