I believe that animals do not have a soul. They can't be saved.
If animals have no soul, do they have consciousness? Animals can feel embarassed, sad, happy, pain - you have no reason to think they don't have a soul other than your preconceptions. Let's say for a moment that they don't have a soul. So they can't make decisions, right? They do not make decisions, they are not sentient. Then what causes them to bite someone else? Instinct, intuition, reflexes? Does a baby sin when they kick and scream and bite, out of nothing but their own helplessness? No, I would not say so. The question is then, does an animal NEED saving? Doesn't lack of sentience imply they are sinless? They do not have original sin, as they are not human, what do they need to be saved from?
Now, let's look at the other viewpoint, in that a dog knows it is doing evil when it attacks someone, pees on your carpet, etc. This implies that your animal is conscious, that they are cognizant of their actions, that they are sentient. Many religions (mostly eastern ones) view animals as sentient. So if they are sentient, conscious, aware of themselves in every sense, why should they not have a soul? Just because the bible does not mention it does not mean it does not or will not happen - it does not show/mention every exception, every rule. In fact, the bible even supports the previous theory, where animals are sinless by nature: Matthew 5:8, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Do animals not have hearts as well?
