Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:61-62 NASB1995
It is the greatest honor to serve in the kingdom of God. Sure, it's difficult but it's worth it when we see the fruit of seeing others growing in their relationship with Jesus.
So when I read this verse, it can be pretty scary as I to this day still look back sometimes. Or, a better way of putting it is I get distracted by the things of this world. Even Paul struggled with that in Romans 7. One thing I've noticed is that even when I'm being distracted, I keep pressing towards Jesus and slowly but surely I'm getting more consistent in my relationship with Him.
So Christians, if you struggle with distractions like I do, keep pressing forward and keep growing in your relationship with Jesus. He doesn't give up on us, He's in complete control and He understands our flesh even better than we do. I think Paul said it best:
Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14 NASB1995
