In the very first sermon recorded, Peter convicted the Jews of participating in the death of the Jesus.“Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"(Acts 2:37).How would you answer this simple, but vital question? I suspect the answer would not be like Peter’s. Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

How did the people respond? “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them” (Acts 2:41).And the result? “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:47).

But what are people told today? “Salvation is by faith alone?” If that were true, why did Peter give a different answer which resulted in people being saved?  I am sorry and I mean no disrespect but Rev 3:20 has nothing to do with instructing man on how to be saved.

I have a lot more to say and this is just the beginning. :)  But at this time, time won't allow me to finish.

But it also said that those who gladly recieved his word were baptised, it never said that they were saved by the baptism itself, where in the bible does it say that you have to be baptised to be saved? If you find this then what you are saying must be right.

Take note of these verses then draw your own conclusion.

Mark 16:16
16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. That is a very clear and uderstandable statement.

Acts 2:38
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptizedin the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now why again are we getting baptized... God says for the remission of sin. Would anyone say this is not true?

Galatians 3:27
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Romans 6:3
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as werebaptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

Acts 22:16
16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’ What did baptism do...according the God's word it washed away Paul's sins.

John 3:5
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 3:21
21 There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, What saves us...again, according to God's own word, baptism saves us.

Like I said, draw your own conclusion. Don't take my word for it. Check those verses out in the Bible. Check the ones before and after also. It is obvious to me that a water baptism is required for salvation.

Just a side note; I started out in a Baptist Church where we didn't believe baptism was required. After studying God's word more closely I discovered the truth. Just letting everyone know that I have been on both sides of the fence.

But heres another question, why would God require us to get dunked into water for remissions of our sins? What he means by that, is that if you truly beleive you will end up getting baptised, because in his word it says to be baptised to proclaim your faith.
It also says that Jesus was the ultimate lamb and died for our sins, so that we will not perish, but hav everylasting life.

Again, may I ask where is the bolded section found in the Bible?

Nothing I quoted above says that. All those clearly says baptism is for forgiveness of sin. Again, I ask, where in the Bible does it say to be baptized to proclaim your faith? I have answered your question from post #52 giving multiple accounts in the Bible that says baptism saves. Now, can you show me where it says that baptism proclaims faith.

BTW,
Romans 10:17
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Also, thank you for the civilized discussion. I keep wondering where is uptoolayte.

Honestly I'm not a verse junky, a lot of what i know are from bible studies and sermon's i've been to over the years, and i honestly don't think that many people could be decieved by the idea that you don't have to be baptised to be saved.
As well, even though I myself have been baptised, i beleive it was the asking of Jesus into my heart that saved me.

Well...I'll be honest with you. If someone tells you something in those bible studies and the sermons and they can't back it up with scripture I would question the validiity of their teachings.

2 Peter 2:1-2 says,
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

Always search the scriptures for the truth, don't rely on what I say or others say. More to come. :)
