Read the New Testament. You have a very legalistic viewpoint similar to the pharisees.
Jesus hung out with tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners. We are supposed to follow Jesus' example therefore we are supposed to hang out with sinners. Just as Jesus did, our best friends should be Christians for our fellowship but we should be out in the midst of sinners so we can witness.
As i said, go read Galatians 5 so you can see that legalism is not the way of Jesus. And please dont stop there, keep reading!

I did as you said and read Galations 5 and it is telling the church at Galatia that it is wrong to seek salvation by works (the law). Many of the false teachers at Galatia were teaching that if they would follow the law, and be circumcised, they would go to heaven. But Paul explains in Galations 5 that the law cannot save you, only Christ can through faith. "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace." Galations 5:4 Paul explains here that those who seek salvation by works, the flesh, have fallen from God's grace because they have thrown away the idea that only Christ's blood can save them and have chosen their own works and doings to save them.

This wouldn't be necessarily true.

What if in your scenario, the lost person also had dreadlocks?

I'll add a biblical context. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.

I understand, what you're thinking, but I if someone had long hair (dreadlocks) and was truly a believer, they would understand that the bible says "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?" (1 Corinthians 11:14) and if they saw someone else with long hair (dreadlocks), then they would understand that that person is disobeying the bible in having long hair, therefore if a believer understood this, they would most likely not choose to seek biblical information from this person, seeing that have disregarded the bible's teaching.

And about Jesus being around lost people. As Hebrews 4:15 says "We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Jesus was perfect and by this he did not give in to the temptations of the world. We are not perfect, and will be drawn in by the temptations of the world. Secondly, Jesus witnessed to the lost, not hung out with them. We have to understand that there is a difference between witnessing and hanging out with someone. Witnessing is telling others of how we can be saved if we believe in the Lord while still drawing the line between right and wrong. Befriending someone or hanging out with them can be different because we tend to let our spiritual guard down when we are around friends because we trust them more or at least I do.

Also, 2 Corinthians 6:14-16 says "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." The Lord explains that we are not to "yoke" with those who oppose our belief because we are complete opposites in beliefs. Also yoking with the lost will tempt us spiritually and can cause us to turn away from God. As 1 Corinthians 15:33 says, "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." We cannot endure the temptations of the world seeing as we are imperfect and we are liable to sin.

Sorry if it seems i have been attacking you, I dont think i should be claiming that you dont understand that we arnt under law. This is my opinion, i want us to draw truth from scripture.
I do agree with the things you are saying in this post, but i still 100% stand by "Just as Jesus did, our best friends should be Christians for our fellowship but we should be out in the midst of sinners so we can witness."
We definitely need a strong base of christian fellowship, which is something we are both saying.
I just can't support things like "Someone who truly is a believer would not be among the "alternative" crowd" Because i know strong believers that wear things like skinny jeans and have piercings, tattoos etc. (what i consider the alternative crowd)
Just knowing what is central to christs' teaching; where your heart is in the things you do, and are you following the spirit. how can you say every believer will dress in the same way, what we consider "normal"? Maybe the spirit is leading believers in that direction, you do not know how God works.

You mean you've found verses in the bible that contradict each other?

HOLY FUCK!!

I could open any two pages and find 6 things that oppose each other. Not that I would be caught dead with a bible in my hand...

the only way to do this is to take verses out of context. Post some of theses "contradictions" and kissofdeath and i will be happy to show you the truth of scripture

Oops I'm so sorry, I meant to say Numbers. Chapter 6:5 “All the days of his vow of separation, no razor shall touch his head. Until the time is completed for which he separates himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. He shall let the locks of hair of his head grow long."

Ezekiel also puts in something about the topic in Chapter 44:20 "They shall not shave their heads or let their locks grow long; they shall surely trim the hair of their heads."

How about women ?
(women with long hair, no dreads ;) )
