nobility and high-culture-minds think tattoos are for peasants

and

if God wanted you to have a tattoo, he would have given it to you as a birth mark

By this logic you would be born with a bible?

Im not religious bur i understand the hesitation i see my body as a beautiful natural living pulsing thing. I frown on tattoos(for myself) in the same way i might carving my name in a tree. But thats my personal outlook

Aesthetically i think tattoos can be wonderful, if you have something that means alot to you do it. You are not a worse christian for it.

Going back to the tree, it survives and the name i carved survives too.
If you feel your tattoo is something you can always be proud to have on your body just do it

We're living in the new testament era. Focusing on tattoos is merely focusing on externals of an individual, not the internals where it truly matters. If we're to say tattoos are sinful because the body is a holy temple, than if you're overweight, underweight, have poor hygiene, all of these things, you're living in sin. It's an inevitable thing if we're going to reference that completely, tattoos would be least of my worries.

get tattoos if you want them
it won't change how you feel on the inside, and its a way to express yourself on the outside

Leviticus 19: 28 NIV

"Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoomarks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

Your quoting a verse from very old times. If you study the era of when this was written, tattoos were not used as art. Tattoos were mainly of portraying different Gods or idols.

You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols.

It was a sin back then to ink your body because the inking was used to signify other Gods and their loyalty to them. That's not that case now. I am 100% Christian and I have plenty of tattoos. All I have to say to anyone that wants to get tattoos, make sure you want them 100% because they are there forever. But don't let any Christian or anyone tell you it is a sin, because it is not. Taking verses written in a different time era and taking them word for word without looking for the meaning behind them at the time the story was written does not make sense. It's like saying gay a long time ago. If you read in books of the past, gay was a word to describe happiness. But us reading it today wouldn't take it as meaning that. Times change and so do meanings of words.

I've always had my eye on tattoos and wanting to get one, but the big ehh for me is dirtying up my skin in the lord's eyes.

Anyone else's thoughts on this?

deut22:

9Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled.

10Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.

11Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.

12Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.

Pretty sure you don't do verse 12. rules and regulations. we are bound to the law of grace which are the moral laws that you keep - not ceremonial ones. Even Jesus was questioned for doing good on the Sabbath because it still violated the law. If the tattoos are somehow making you obsessed with the way you look and somehow define you, you should probably refrain as it is in a moral sense idolatry. If you think they look cool and doesn't become a distraction then you're fine.

Tattoos are not harming yourself

You can shoot this a read, seems interesting but I didn't read it all

Pm if you have any more questions

I see a lot of people quoting the Old Testament but the old law was nailed to the cross with Christ.

The statement above sums it up pretty well

Why tattoos were taboo back then.

What you do to yourself does not change your beliefs.

This thread makes no sense.

I think as long as you don't put anything that conflicts with values of christ?
Even so it wouldn't be bad but tattoos have meaning and i think they have unconcious and concious effect
:)

I'd say live your life the way you want to. If it makes you feel more complete do it.
