Don't download anything illegal and and you're set in regards to not having to deal with guilt. Regarding streaming media I imagine it's a case-by-case basis. I have a couple bands that I like that I haven't been able to find their music to buy, but they have songs up on youtube that I assume weren't uploaded by them. Think of your view, thumbs up and favorite as a promotion to the notoriety of the band. The person who uploaded the video without proper copyrights won't make any money off of it and you're not stealing the music. If you can't find the mp3 on amazon/itunes for 99 cents, than simply listening to the youtube video can't be that bad. What if you bought songs from a band before and you want to hear their new album before you decide to purchase? Is that sneak peak causing you guilt? Also, I'm sure many bands have played free concerts, uploaded to multiple sites for free streaming, such as myspace. Think of youtube as a tevo for songs you might have missed on the radio.

I personally love a tv show called Red Dwarf. The first episode I saw was in 5th grade. One day in college I decided to try and find out what show it was and found every episode uploaded to youtube. This was my only means of watching at the time and what I could afford. It then came to netflix..it was on netflix for over a year, but netflix recently removed them. I now own all the episodes on DVD. I don't have any guilt for watching the illegally uploaded videos on youtube, because I supported the show in the long run.

I don't download music illegally anymore..haven't for at least 6-7 years now.

In my eyes i don't see nothing wrong with it to be honest. Everyone does it including people working for the government. And I'm sure you have done it at least once in your life. Sure it may be considered stealing but it's no exactly stealing if your getting the music from people that copied then from there cd and posted them on the internet. I don't really care if they ban it though i don't dl music or anything anymore. And for it being a sin i have this quote from a song. Don't take them as spam it's just what i also believe for us sinners.

pretty jaded view of what constitutes stealing...

CvD: Everyone doing something does not make something right (eg, argument ad populum). I'd be more interested in scripture backing up your cause than quotes (of which I can think of quite a few examples related to those quotes, off the top of my head, though not sure how they would hold up under closer scrutiny in regards to this specific topic).

i agree with this and would just like to add anytime u say "everybody is doing it" u usually know its wrong and are trying to justify ur actions using other ppls actions as a standard of right and wrong which ofc is always a mistake

The real thing we should look at is whether or not it is legal. Which under the law, it is not.
We can try as best we can to justify sin, but all in all, sin is sin. No matter how we sugar coat it.

Its unlawful to steal. Paul says in Romans i believe that we are subject to the law of our government.

actually, the 10 commandments are a portion of the law listed in the Torah (first 5 books of the bible.) In the Old Testament, there is literally a law for everything. According to the bible, we as a people ARE subject to the law of the government.

Romans 13:1-2 Everyone must submit to government authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.

I used to think piracy was no big deal and that it didn't really matter if I downloaded it or not.

But now as an Artist I'm starting buy albums that I have pirated and ones that I will want.

I wanna stop downloading because I realize how hard the music buisness is to get into and piracy and downloading is really robbing some people of their talent and efforts in that career field.
