The god of abraham did not seem very merciful. I struggle with the transition between the Flood story, the conquests of Joshua, the teachings of Jesus and the book of revelations.

I think your confusing mercy with GOD's intolerance of sin such as the story of Lot, mercy is shown to Abraham through the ram sacrifice before he sacrificed his son to GOD then later (GOD) sacrificing his own son for mankind ..difference is we provided no ram for GOD proving his mercy for mankind
