I'll frame my writing from the perspective that ferf is talking w/ regards to eternal salvation/heaven/eternity.
Some people are uncomfortable with the idea that they have no choice in being saved, sure we can ask god through our free will but it is still up to god & only with him in us can we be saved for eternity.
One reason why some people are uncomfortable with this is because it takes away their sinful need/desire to feel as though they have the last say over their eternal existence, but this is rather naive as we did not create ourselves or this world to begin with, god did. It's understandable to feel this need as satan has some influence over this life so we're easily led astray with out an unshakeable faith in god, but it's still not wise as it's not of god.
Think of our existence as a painting, & like a painting you may question who made it, but you don't question that it was made, just like our life/the world around - you may question who made it but you cannot deny it is before you & was created by a masterful creator which we call god, and thus we are not gods but a by-product of god our creator and likewise only he can save us for all eternity.
Hope this provides subsidence for anyone struggling to give up control & grasp faith in god our creator.
Bravo mike, very well said.
