you've made a lot of good points, I'm not going to convince my mom to stop tithing anymore (I only mentioned it today). I just wish most pastors weren't so extravagant.

It seems most of what needs to be said about tithing has been said by njaguar. I came in the conversation late.

As far as I'm concerned, even being poor does not exempt you from tithing. The 10% rate is of your increase and whatever you have. If you LITERALLY make a dollar from begging and you go to church, then its not unfair to give 10 cents.

The reason I say that is this:

Luke 21:1-4
1 And [Jesus] looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

If you give of your tithe, no matter how much you make, and you do it cheerfully, then that is the important thing. Just remember the woman with the two mites.

Tithing is basically a test of faith and trust. No, the point isn't so you can pay for a pastors comfortable living.

just skimmed through different parts of that site, there is so much crap and false information there....

i would try to stay away from that site....
