Be a follower of Jesus Christ and then you will be a Christian. Christian literally means "follower of Christ"

There are different distinctive theological beliefs. At the base level, there is more to being a follower. You can be a follower of anything in this world, but it may not necessarily take hold of your heart and mind. Yet the Word clearly declares we are to love the Lord with all our heart, mind, body, soul, and strength (see various translations of Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Mark 12:28-31).

I do not necessarily disagree with you, I just think we need to be careful when we say, "just believe" or "just follow Christ."
