Faith and knowledge aren't the same thing. You can have faith that something is true without knowing for a fact that it's true. And if you ask different people who identify as Christians, I'm sure you will find that some are confident enough to say that they KNOW there is a God, while others will say that they don't know, but they do strongly believe it. That's where the difference is. It's the same way with atheists. Some will say they know there isn't a god (gnostic atheists), while others will say they don't know for sure, but think there probably isn't a god (agnostic atheist).

my original comment talking about how dumb it was to claim to be one was not refering to how you may look at it in english class.
It sounds like you just said it's dumb to claim to be something that you, by definition, are. I'm not sure how that works, exactly. Care to elaborate?
