I never said anything about you twisting my words bro, just about how it seems like I am twisting words of the bible, or that you are , or that anyone does.
I read that verse before I even pursued anything, because even after reading that I did not agree with your point.
It shows Jesus saying that if we persistently pray we can get God's notice and perhaps have our prayers answered. However, it does not say what the content of the prayer is.

Whatever people did in the past has no concern for me, the prophets words and those of the church are just those. Only words from Jesus and God have any definitive merit, everything else is just their interpretation.
With that said, praying, or having a conversation of God, would be pointless if it was only about your desires consitantly. In my opinion it is a sort of blasphemy to repetitively beg for something. I think asking once, then praying to him about general things will show your sincerity upon the subject. Also, a prayers length can be long or short depending on the person. Some people are long winded, some are not. Just don't pride yourself on being long winded.

I think it's pretty clear based on the parable he tells that the content of the prayer was asking for something to be done.
I'm not preaching health and wealth gospel, or saying that if you pray persistently for something that isn't in God's will you'll get it anyway.
All I'm saying is that if you care about something you should pray for it a lot, and not a single Scripture you've presented contradicts that view.
In your opinion it's blasphemy? You think asking once is enough? When we start to look at spiritual things from an opinion based view we start to deviate from the Bible. All of our convictions should be rooted in the Word.

My only point was to pray persistently about things you care about.
I haven't said anything about needing to have long prayers, having insincere prayers, nor did I say that asking God for things is all that your prayers should consist of. This is all stuff that you've fabricated to argue with me about.

The only reason I've even taken this as far as its gone is because I do not want you to give an opinionated and unbiblical view of prayer to people who may be viewing this.

Also, every canonized text in the Bible is the Word of God. What would possess you to think that only the gospels are relevant, when the apostles and members of the early church are the ones who wrote those anyway?
The prophets of the Old Testament were directly relaying God's commands to His people, and in most cases have prophecies about Christ within them. Are these not relevant? Do you not think that the Holy Spirit inspired the writers of the Bible?

2 Timothy 3:16

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,"

Not supposed to become a Christian for someone else. It will only put stress on your relationship, and that isn't how you truly become saved. By the way, is that girl actually interested in you? Do you actually believe in God, or is that just your "selfish" attempt to get that girl to marry you?

So you are saying we aren't allowed to have an opinion about the words in the Bible? That doesn't sound like free will bro.
edit: Also, if you are saying one thing you think about prayer, how can the person understand your point without knowing all of your view upon it? That is why I talked about such things.
edit2: That is true, all scripture is inspired by God, but the Bible is just a collection of what we think is scripture, who to say that all of it is? Or what part of it is God inspired? That could also be Timothy's opinion or thought. Why do you just blindly follow instead of try to think of it of what it is? Faith is not blindly following, it is believing in something that is unproven or unseen. There is no harm in questioning a bunch of words on paper, what you take it as is what is for you. God never spoke to be and told me all of the bible is true, or what we call the Bible is actually all his word and scripture. Human sin and influence will always be upon everything in this world, even the Bible.

First off, thanks for all the replies. Highly appreciated.

I can tell from the discussion regarding prayer, that it is highly important. Seeking him often.

I know that, and that's what she said when I told her that I wanted to try it out. Yes, she is interested in me, or at least she was, we were together for 1,5 years. I am not a Christian yet, that's why I made this thread. The original thought was pretty selfish, but now that's she has rejected me anyways I still want to try it out. As I said in my original post or not, to me it doesn't really matter if He's ACTUALLY real or not, as long as I believe that He is, I will find comfort. That's what I find really interesting about it. Having someone to complain to instead of nagging on my friends all the time. I've been praying a lot for the last two days, asking to help me get over this shit that I'm feeling. It might be placebo, but I feel like it's much easier now. I will definitely continue this, and keep "studying".

...hook up with a local Bible church and introduce yourself to the pastor . Explain your situation to him and remain open and honest .

The problem is that the only church I'd like to go to, my ex-girlfriends parents are pastors there..lol.

The Bible says that a church is a gathering of people sharing God's word with each other and praising him. You don't have to go to sermons and have contact with those people as long as you study the Bible and attend some sort of Bible study with a group of people every week, sharing your findings and discussing your weeks events with them. Make friends there, enjoy life, and praise God.

First of all, the apostle Paul wrote 1 and 2 Timothy. You are allowed to have any opinion you want, you're allowed to obey the Word of God, or not. That is where there is free will. You can not, however, interpret the Bible any way you want, and be correct in whatever you think. There is only one true way to interpret Scripture. Do you really think that God, being all powerful, would allow the Bible to represent Him the way that it does if it was not his inspired word? I fully believe the Holy Spirit was present during the Council of Nicaea, and that the canonized texts were chosen divinely. You can question it however you want, whatever conclusion you come to is your choice, but the Word of God is the Word of God.

It doesn't matter who wrote it. That may be true, that there is only one true way to interpret scripture. But why is yours right? You really think, that God all powerful woudln't let some1 write w.e they want or mess up the configuration of the bible while little girls get raped in asia.

You are too closed minded my friend.

edit:i know very well that my thoughts may be wrong, but that doesn't mean I'm going to follow others way of interpretation.

Think whatever you want, but don't make up your own stuff and present it as Biblical fact to someone who's trying to learn how to be a Christian when you have no Scripture to support your views.
