My plan of action would be once you find a place, and what the down payment would be.... I would go to a local loan company and take out a small loan to at least go towards the payment. Yeah, it increases debt in this case, but at the same time, you will have a roof over your head, and a place to start new in.

Yeah Dave has some good ideas but I find when he says credit isn't required is a stretch in most places. Maybe I am not educated enough in his concept of thinking or I am not armed with the right tools. I should be getting my FASFA grant from the big Fed so that will be applied to a down payment on an apartment or house to rent. We found a place too good to be true and it was. Damn craig's list scammers out there trying to get money off people. We didn't send any money though.
We drove past it just to make sure before hand.
