1 - NASB (Haven't read from this, anyone have a good comaprison of it to the NLT? I heard the NASB was a excellent version)
1 - NKJV
1 - NIV
1 - ESV
1 - BOJ (Bible of Jerusalem - First time hearing of this, is this a good version?)

Honestly in my opinion you need to use the KJV with a strong's concordinance and/or bible dictionary of some sort.

I do have a Strong's concordinance, why do you say you need to use the KJV? :)

Because it's the closest you can get to actually being able to bring the words of the bible back to it's roots of aramaic and ancient greek text with the strong's concordance. With NKJV or NLT or NIV or the others some has already done the deciphering for you and let's face it to error is human.

To be quite honest my personal preference of the bible would be to read the actual aramaic and ancient greek texts it was written in and decipher it for myself. There are so many different decipherings for different words, like the 9 different meanings of Praise and Grace!

The thing is, we don't know the translation of the KJV to be the most accurate, most greek/hebrew words translated have more than 1 word, where in the English language we have one word. Doubtful it will ever be 100% word for word accurately translated. Like you said, no translation will get it "perfect". The Holy Spirit guiding us reading any translation will decipher for us what it means, regardless of version. I just feel like I have to be on my "A game" when reading the KJV. When I read I will read a few pages and realize I have no idea what I read (usually when reading the Bible its a little better than that cause I pray prior and try my best to stay focused and usually get so into it). But when reading the NLT I can just sit back and read it without having to think super hard, etc.

That's exactly why KJV is the better one to read! Does God not deserve your "A Game"? Why be laxidaisical and not put forth 100% effort? You need to actually need to break each verse down word for word and find out what everything means! Don't be spoon fed! God deserves your "A game"

God very much deserves our "A game" but just because it takes my mind when im trying to read to be on its "A game" doesn't mean my spirit is giving its "A game" or on its "A game". I put forth 100% effort and learn the most reading the NLT. I don't disagree we need to study, but I can study using any version.
