If you have been in their position you would know how it happens. Something awoke inside of her when she fell, she felt anger and felt like she had something to prove.

She switched to do or die mode and that only happens when something like that happens. Falling down in the race would 'wake you up' and make you try a lot harder than normal.

Think of it as getting a big slap in the face which not only motivates you but also wakes you up from the 'negative thinking.'

Tripping while running is pretty bad for a runner. Someone falling out of the blocks and winning a 400+ isn't unusual at all, I've done it myself back when I ran track
But losing your footing midstride raises some serious questions.
