I find it difficult to believe you could find justification for piracy in the Bible. Jesus didn't steal fish from the rich to feed the poor. He didn't steal gold from Caesar to build a church.

It does however state to not store up your treasures here on earth, and that includes anything tangible or digital I would imagine, as much for the consumer as for the producers.

The problem is, what if right now I want to go listen to a song off youtube. Let's say "red - start again" a popular Christian song. Does it depend on which video I watch is me commiting a sin or not? Because who knows where the author came from? Did the original author really have 100% rights to the song while uploading it to youtube? I don't know that. And infact, that would be a Sin, because I am technically downloading there MEDIA over the internet, onto my computer. (Through the Internet Service Provider). I am saying this because, how would I know it's a sin? People go to youtube to watch youtube videos everyday/second/hour, how do they know if the original uploader uploaded the original bought CD album/etc? It just does not seem right to say it's a sin. By that logic, we are saying that 50% of everyone who watches youtube video's are a sinning, because half of it is not uploaded with the author's consent, nor they own rights to the song/content.

Very vague topic, but it needs to be addressed. If it's such a "sin" then I shouldn't go to youtube to listen to songs? Makes no sense. There has to be a FINE LINE on what is a sin and not and unfortunately I cannot seem to find it regarding this piracy/download stuff, so I really have no idea.

Or maybe just stay off youtube? I mean I don't know :(

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

Especially buy Christian music! I enjoy paying for good Christian songs, because that way I'm ultimately supporting the artist.

I don't however, want to support the Luciferian musicians of the world.

This is a Christian question (for Christians only), any spam will be reported, please keep it Christian-Like and friendly.

I know some Christians at church that still download music "illegally" What's your POV on it?  I know it's a very broad question, and there is ALOT OF semantics and variables involved.

But for me I think, it is a sin.  Illegal downloading music/movies is "stealing".  and Stealing is a sin, I don't really care how much you sugar coat it, in the end you stole it.  But my question is, were do you stand on the line on what is Illegal to download or not?

Let me know your thoughts, please keep it civilized, no need to spam or turn it into a PARD Debate, keep it a Christian debate.  I looked at other Christian Forums, and they have the same type of debate, so I know it's possible, just be friendly.

Thanks

Looking forward for your opinions

Keeping it Christian like, means being friendly to others/etc, I can define that because it's my thread ;)

Ask yourself how the people who create software, movies, games and music feel about your piracy- how a man who loses his job because its simply not profitable to create something that can be freely stolen anymore feels, because, as you say, everyone else does it.
I don't think you'll find any scripture to address technology and piracy beyond "Thou Shalt Not Steal"
Its a moral you have to find on your own- and not a victimless crime.

The bible does talk about piracy, "Thou Shalt Not Steal" is exactly what piracy is? I am confused. The bible talks about everything we need to know in this life ;)

The issue I am having is, where does the line cross from piracy or sharing.

These are awesome quotes, but I just don't believe searching youtube for a song and listening to it is necessarily "bad" or "evil" that's the problem

I believe if somone wants to listen to a song, they should beable go on youtube and find a song and listen, but "Technically" if they listen to the song from the wrong uploader, it's illegal & a sin because that one uploader didn't buy the CD or have rights to the song, (Illegal Downloading) am I right? So how do we know if it's bad or Good?

"1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves." - Romans 13:1-2 (NIV)

I know in the USA it is illegal, not sure of other countries, but if your government calls it illegal it is therefore a sin. (Although if your government creates a law all man should take the mark of the beast (666) than obviously it doesn't align with the Word of God so it would not be a sin if you didn't.)
