Why do many athletes pray to God to win a Superbowl or whatever? Do they really think God has a favorite team? Isn't the other team praying the exact opposite thing?

If they're really praying biblically, they are praying that God's will would be done regardless of the result.

So you say winning a game is only to glorify God and 0% to glorify themselves (players), you say you guys (Christians) only live for Him God ?
I'm not convinced, sorry.
And I think it's unhealthy (google translation for "malsain", from French). I don't understand it and why, but I respect, I respect.

We try. That doesn't mean we are perfect.

instead of praying for a win, the athletes that know and understand Christ pray that they can glorify him with whatever chance they get (winning or losing). A win is such a small feat in the scope of eternity and they should be praying that words may be given them to make known the mystery of the gospel every time they open their mouth.

I enjoyed Nja's response... but on a more informal approach..

It's because God pays more attention to sports than world hungry, poverty, death, famine, etc.. It's more fun!

There is a significant amount of pressure placed upon athletes. To help share the pressure, they believe and pray to god. It works wonders.

More importantly, how would the OP suggest it's different than praying for any other reason?
