A lot of people believe it is a requirement to enter heaven but it really is not. However, you should seek reaching to becoming baptized if you weren't already. Do it when you feel you are ready and when the times is right for you.
I am in the same boat as you. But there is a difference between a non denominational and an interdenominational. The place I go to is more interdenominational and we do not speak on denominations there. We just preach the Bible and we worship together. After going to soooo many churches with different denominations I think I've finally found one I'm content with.
Actually the thief on the cross went to heaven because Jesus had not died yet, therefor he did not need to be baptized.. Jesus said to him..."Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."
The old law was nailed to the cross when Jesus Died... So when this conversation took place the new law was not in affect which is Baptism.
We are baptized for the remission of our sins, Sin seperates us from God, therefor being baptized is a must to get into Heaven.
(Acts 22:16) 16 Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
(Luke 3:3) 3 He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.
(Acts 2:38) 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
With Acts 2:38 they already believed it, and yet they still asked what must we do to be saved and he answered ^
Like you said tho, you should do it when you know right from wrong. When you know Why you're being baptized.
Babies and children that are not old enough to know right from wrong should be in Heaven according to this.
By all means, To each his own. This is not to start an arguement this is because I want everyone to know what they must do to get into Heaven.
