Quote (njaguar @ May 25 2011 04:42pm)
If someone you love and care for (or even someone you don't) rushes headlong into traffic, are you going to stand by and say nothing, or are you going to shout out at them to stop, and possibly run after them?

When someone does something, that means they care about you. When they do nothing, you should be concerned that they are not indifferent, because indifference is worse than hatred in this regard.

This is a good example. People who really believe in their religion will want to spread it to you in order to try and give you the joy and security they have because of it.

But like I said, there is a difference before forcing and recommending.

The issue is i do not agree with this same concept.
Someone telling me i will be going to a hell i don't believe in, is uncalled for to begin with.
Ive gone to church with my grand mother many times before she passed away, for many years and i just see no reason to believe in the concept of heaven or hell.
Now is this wrong of me? maybe. However others should respect my choice. I respect their choice to believe, i think it should be visa versa.

An unruly child that doesn't see the danger in running into the street without looking often has the same mindset. It is not wrong of someone who loves that child to do everything they can to right that potentially deadly behavior.

I believe there is a time and place for both the carrot and the stick. Perhaps they have resorted to the stick because you didn't respond to the carrot.

Like I said, you should be concerned only if your family is indifferent to you and your choices.

But does this apply to something that can't be proven?

Well my issue is this is not the same situation, i am not some unruly child who is running into a street.
My behavior is nowhere near potentially deadly, not believing in something that can be completely falsified and goes completely against my scientific beliefs is nothing like your example.

Also please note i am not concerned about their reaction/behavior to my beliefs
I was curious as to what other individuals felt about this situation, and if they felt it was ok.
This thread is not made to highlight my concerns or beliefs, just to see some other points of view.

Why do people quote the Bible to a non-believer?
