I have a religious friend and I just basically wanted to know if it would offend her if I mentioned the fact someone who hurt me has died and it brings me joy.

No feelings dont make you a bad person or a "sinner"... it's the impulse and actions of those feelings that make us who we are. ;)

If you are happy about someone's death, you should consider why their death makes you happy, and the following implications. For example, let's say someone had a long struggle with cancer and eventually died. Part of you may feel happy because their pain is over, and they are no longer suffering. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

On the other hand, if you are happy about someone dying who you did not like, or thought was a "bad" person, that is a much more selfish emotion and I'm sure Jesus would discourage those feelings. After all, we are taught to pray for our enemies, as the only One who can judge the lives of others is God.

What about in the case of Hitler...? Or Ghenghis Khan? Jeoseph Goebbles?

My post does not change when the person changes. Jesus would not take joy in the death of anyone.

Well if Jesus doesn't think that those people deserve to be dead and wouldnt be happy that it happened... then Jesus was/is an asshole ;)

That is not true, I think your perspective is just a little different. Your emotions must be pretty radical if they lead you to actually finding joy in the deaths of others. You are attempting to put a value on human life based on their actions, and I believe that all life is valuable.

It is one thing to being happy that the sins of an individual have come to an end and as a result no more people will be harmed because of their sins; but to actually celebrate death is a pretty dark and shameful thing in my opinion.

Proverbs 24: 17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,

Ezekiel 33: 11 Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’

Ezekiel 18: 23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? 32 For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!

We're to rejoice when righteousness triumphs over evil, but I think it's clear that God wishes all to be saved. I don't believe it's right to rejoice in the death of the individual, but rather the ideals that person represents.
