Biblically there are 2 forms of praying in tongues .

The public exhibition of tongues is not a form of prayer and comes with Biblical restrictions including the need for an interpreter and is rarely if ever genuine in the post-Apostolic age .
The worship of God should always be orderly and respectful and a bunch of people clucking and clacking like a bunch of indecipherable barnyard fowl is anything but .

The private display of tongues is indeed prayer and is the Holy Spirit praying for us . It is meant to be personal and not a public display and is for the benefit and edification of the person praying .

hate to tell yah bro, but at church when everyone is going crazy on fire in prayer, its intense and awesome, the fact that its a group of Christians
having the Holy Spirit praying through doesnt strip the group of the spirit and grace of prayer, it brings more to prayer, and is able to open you up.
and EVERYONE can interpret -- its one of the gifts of the spirit, and we have all of them -- we may not know HOW to use them, but we have it.

this is a touchy subject, but i believe that the gift of tongues only existed in the apostlic age due to the fact that Christ's commandment to go and spread the gospel meant that his followers were to go to different lands
different lands involve different languages, they did not have the finesse of translations of languages like we do today so the holy spirit worked in a way that unbelievers could understand and hear and believe
this is to benefit the cause of christ which is to preach the gospel and disciple the nations

i also believe that the languages spoken were actual legit languages that people from different places could actually understand like, chinese, indian, russian, etc.
sitting around in the church with a bunch of believers speaking in languages that are not a known language to any people is contradictory to the cause of christ

that is also a big problem with churches today, not jus the fact that they speak in tongues but the fact that they sit in their churches for a sunday morning and don't get the gospel out like they should
the members of the church think it's the pastor's job to do that kind of work when in reality, the pastor is just an example, someone who can be called "blameless" to give advice to people
all believers are called to be priests of the Lord and therefore should proclaim his word

This is probably the most unsettling of the spiritual gifts. To some people, tongues is completely normal. To some, it is archaic and something that was only done in the past, possibly due to translational issues or taking the gift out of the context that it was originally intended. And to others it is complete nonsense. I've heard of people too who claimed to have spoken in tongues only to find out that what they said were actually a few words in greek or hebrew, or another language. Scientifically, I think that if you are looking for meaning for your "tongues" that I think you will hear it and find it somewhere, much like all those songs you play backwords and hear hidden messages.

I personally think that no man's opinion of the subject is right or wrong so we shouldn't attack one or another. Only God know's what the gift really is for so pray to him about it.

As for the hot thing in your ear, I don't know what to tell you about that. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless its a reoccuring feeling.

do i believe in it: Yes
do i believe that most of the time today its fake: oh yea, definatly.
have i myself ever done it: No, allthough i have been in the situation of spirituality that comes from the recieving of the Holy Spirit. but i've not ever spoken in tongues. i'd guess this is due to the fact that i am only recently a believer (within the past 2-3 years) in speaking in tongues, and had a very conservative up bringing, so my worldy self is fighting with my spiritual self, thus makeing it slightly harder to actually reach a point where i'm speaking in tongues.

i think people believe in what they want to believe

your mind has a good way of letting you think something is happening when it's not
look up placebo effect

people get better from illness when taking a fake pill to cure it is one example

but do i think god is fake? no
so yeah i dont know what to say about this

I was 11 or 12 years old when I asked the Lord for the gift of praying in tongues, which he gave right away. My question is, Did anyone else feel a really hot heat by their right ear when they tried to speak it for the first time? it felt as if I had my head right up next to a heater.

I dont check this forum much, so if you have some insight for me please PM.

thank you

You felt the heat cause your on fire for God!
