As a Christian, I experience some conflicts when discussing my points of view on evolution with my Christian friends. To me, clearly, based on the evidence presented, Evolution exists. Hear me out.
Evolution is change over time. Things change, right? I think everyone can agree to that.
Evolution is also adaptation to environment. Again, I think everyone can agree that things adapt to their environment.
So why is it that since I believe in Evolution, suddenly I am seen in a negative light, almost as if I am a non-believer?
When I have these discussions, my fellow Christians seem baffled at the fact I believe in this 'non-sense'. I try and tell them that believing in evolution has absolutely nothing to do with my faith in Jesus Christ. I have read nothing that suggests that since evolution exists, God is not real. No where.
I don't want to be an outcast for my beliefs.
Does anyone have advice they could give me?
Many Christians are intimidated by the idea or term "evolution" because it is widely used to discredit intelligent design. However, like yourself, there are many Christians that believe God created evolution which allows evolution to inject itself neatly into the creation story.
I personally do not believe in evolution. However, this belief (or yours) does not take away from the salvation that is offered in Christ. As Widow said, Christians like to major in minors. As Christians, we can ALL agree that God created life. Whether it was through the literal interpretation of Genesis, or whether it was through evolution.. the belief remains that it all began with God. It's interesting to talk about, but ultimately means nothing in the bigger picture.
