As a Christian, I experience some conflicts when discussing my points of view on evolution with my Christian friends. To me, clearly, based on the evidence presented, Evolution exists. Hear me out.

Evolution is change over time. Things change, right? I think everyone can agree to that.

Evolution is also adaptation to environment. Again, I think everyone can agree that things adapt to their environment.

So why is it that since I believe in Evolution, suddenly I am seen in a negative light, almost as if I am a non-believer?

When I have these discussions, my fellow Christians seem baffled at the fact I believe in this 'non-sense'. I try and tell them that believing in evolution has absolutely nothing to do with my faith in Jesus Christ. I have read nothing that suggests that since evolution exists, God is not real. No where.

I don't want to be an outcast for my beliefs.

Does anyone have advice they could give me?

Sounds like these Christian friends are fundamentalists, and look at scripture through a literalist lens.

You are not persuaded by the book of Genesis (at least not by the view shared by creationists). The thing is if you accept the virgin birth, the death and resurrection of Christ, you believe in some extraordinary claims. It is on faith alone that you believe, but on the other hand you have essentially dismissed the book of Genesis. That is probably the point of contention. Science does not support the idea of a virgin birth or in being brought back from the dead. Just like there is conflict between evolution and creationist theory.

If I were to venture a guess, I would say that you are viewed negatively because the bible isn't taken as the true word of God.

...my Pastor calls arguing about creation and evolution " majoring in the minors " . We are saved by grace through faith and not our different perspectives on literalism vs. symbolism . Agree to disagree .

The term "evolution" has an awful social stigma associated with it. That's why they are nitpicking you for that certain belief.

Here is a video:

Many Christians are intimidated by the idea or term "evolution" because it is widely used to discredit intelligent design. However, like yourself, there are many Christians that believe God created evolution which allows evolution to inject itself neatly into the creation story.

I personally do not believe in evolution. However, this belief (or yours) does not take away from the salvation that is offered in Christ. As Widow said, Christians like to major in minors. As Christians, we can ALL agree that God created life. Whether it was through the literal interpretation of Genesis, or whether it was through evolution.. the belief remains that it all began with God. It's interesting to talk about, but ultimately means nothing in the bigger picture.

Evolution is as much a scientific fact as the theory of gravity. If any of you don't believe it then try jumping off a building and see if you fall.

Christians all over the world believe in evolution and don't take Genesis literally. This is an issue only in America, where fundamental Christianity aka creationism/intelligent design is commonplace.

A belief in God requires faith ( belief without factual evidence) so obviously to believe in God but not take Genesis seriously is slightly hypocritical as Indent mentioned. However this doesn't stop most moderate Christians, using my own country England as an example.
