I had a very huge debate today with my girlfriend.

To give some background, she has been born and raised of the Catholic faith.
I have recently been saved and i am a orn again christian :)

How this debate, turned out how it did i am not sure. She took everything i said to offense and she hasnt talked to me yet about the matter..

Anyways onto the subject.

I tried to get her to hear and watch a few minutes of a couple of world reknown Preachers.. (Chuck Swindoll & Billy Graham.)
She didnt pay any attention and i took no offense i tried to explain to her the message and how i felt like God truly was speaking through them in their sermons.
She couldnt understand what i was explaining and off the top of my head i couldnt come up with a quote from the scriptures
to give her insight. She was filled with rage and disgust and impatience at me. So kept trying to explain but she wthen wouldnt hear (i thought i was making perfect sense)..

Somehow we got on the subject of Priests in the Catholic church.. I told her that the power of the Catholic Priests has been abused over the years of Catholicism. She instintively disagrees.. I tried to explain to her, that it is TRUE word of the bible that in order for her to pray you must simply pray to the Lord Jesus repent your sins and ask for forgiveness. I told her that it is fact in the scriptures that Lord Jesus says that it is through him you will reach the Heavenly Father.
She turns everything around on me, saying " you cant believe everything you hear" also she says that how is their word right and basically " oh they are all wrong and only the priests are right" which is given she was at one time a very dedicated catholic...

She still to this minute refutes everything i tell her. And she is stuck in her ways.. I try not to pry into her and get her going.
I just ask her to open her mind.

Are there any scriptures on this matter that i can provide her with (she has no knowledge of the bible itself, only what priests have told her over the ears)..
I want to enlighten her and hopefully one day soon, open her eyes to our graceful god, and not the Priesthood.

edit:/ please pray that Alyssa's ears will hear.

I'm not exactly sure what you want insight on...

It is true that power has been abused throughout the churches history, but for the most part, catholicism has changed so dramatically that it is not so different from any denomination of christianity.
(what i mean by that is that catholics have just as much in common with a baptist as a baptist has with a member of the reformed church).

For the large part, I think that the Catholic church is accepted into Christianity.

Again, I'm not really sure what you're looking for, but I hope this helped a bit.

im looking for bibical proof that shows that you can pray directly to Jesus Christ.
and also biblical proof that you dont HAVE to recieve communion everyday in church to come closer to the lord.
I read a scripture somewhere, i think it was in corinthians possibly?
it basically said that Jesus gave the cup of wine for them to drink as remembrance of him.
i dont remember exactly where it says that in the book but i know for a fact i read it earlier today.

i dont know about anybody else, but the word remembrance doesnt also mean strengthen..
therefore it is good to recieve communion but cathlolics believe that to recieve communion means you
are strengthened and are able to come closer to the lord. which is totally wrong in my views..

my step-mom never mentioned church. after 3 weeks i left where she lived (non-US) (first time i saw her)

my dad out of the blue says "she's going to christian church"

my girlfriend never mentioned church. after 2-3weeks of being together she says "i go to church sometimes" (she saw me as a friend for a year)

My family is not christian. we've all tried church. i am the last one left still commited to finding Jesus (but hey at least they gave it a shot)

heh, be the change u want to see

making someone happy and laughing counts too. as well as direct word requests

i am the laughable happy joyous person you describe.
now it has progressed to a level of facts or no fruit. you know what im saying?
she wants factual evidence and quotations from the good book or christianity is history.

this is a huge problem in our relationship beause she wants to be married one day in a catholic church, and i refuse that.
i see the light in her, she is just a little masked from the truth.

I'm a catholic, I believe in pretty much everything the Bible says, except from birth we are brainwashed into thinking a specific way
Its no offense to her or her beliefs, but she was probably force-fed religion her entire life like I was.

sorry if I offend any other catholics out there, and I know not all families/churches are the same, but a majority of catholics are raised from birth in the church (I was), and 'taught' to think a certain way. when someone tells them different they just brush it off as lies.

theres two types of (religious) people in the world, those that find faith, and those that are 'taught' it. you and her seem to be the opposite when it comes to this

Sometimes its even harder to come to Christ if you're absorbed in "Religion".

I agree that the Catholic church is a deception away from Christ, but I also know that there are some truly born again Christians who just need to come out of the Catholic "Religion System"

Either way, their folly will be made manifest as all things of darkness are revealed when the light floods in.

I'm not down with the Catholic Church to be honest, and I think its kind of Satanic.

But remember, its not about Church, its about Jesus, so you can come out if you're part of the "system". You don't need to confess to a man in a booth, nor pray with beads, nor do you need a pope.

Jesus said, "Come out of the world and be separate."

"Follow Me."

maybe shes not the one for you =/ tough to say but it could be...

we are suppose to be with someone of " equal yoke " equal in christ!

otherwise you will spend the rest of your life trying to bring your spouse to the lord! rather than your true purpose of spreading the word of God!

The will of God is sometimes different than our thoughts of " perfect will " for ourselves.... =/

True, though sometimes God works in mysterious ways, I wasn't a Christian before I met my wife. In fact, I was quite the opposite.

yeah, we had broken up a couple times for this reason exactly...
here is a perfect example, she listens but does not hear..
sometimes she tells me she doesnt like the catholic church at all and that she wants me to teach her
but when i try to she tells me im wrong, when im using things ive learned from vrey very credible people and above all the bible..
her words today " Take a couple classes and start to read your bible more, then come talk to me"
so that tells me i just am bad at explaining things, because i am just recently this year TRULY found and finally have a walk with Jesus.
