visit different churches, talk to different people, talk to the preachers, attend different ones every sunday.

Find the one you like the preaching, praise, and people in the most.

If a certain church bores you, leave.

Stay away from conventional churches - same message every time, no fire or passion for God, all lukewarm Christians... No good.

First, you want to understand what you believe about the Gospel. You don't want to mistakenly fall into a cultic church.

Second, once you understand that, I think its pretty easy to find organizations for a particular sect of Christianity, and those organizations usually have a directory.

If you don't really know what you believe other than Jesus Christ is God, then you are on a quest. Search for churches in your city.

I enjoy conventional churches, I cannot stand that "Christian rock" stuff.

I agree with this. I don't think God wants people to pray a prayer in some fakey tone of monotone voice.
