The Thief on the Cross

Jesus said to the thief on the cross who repented "Today (Present tense) you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). This thief was neither baptized nor partook of the Lords supper, he simply believed, and was promised to be with Jesus.

He did no works but only believed. This is hard to accept for those who add requirements to be saved or busy themselves to earn their way to heaven.

During the crucifixion, you can imagine the pain you'd be going through. In Jewish time, the day was over as soon as it got dark, so you can also imagine the relief you'd feel by knowing that within just a few hours, maybe even before 6:00pm, you'd be at peace.

Quote
Matthew 27:

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split

52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.

53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Truly he was the Son of God!”

Pretty amazing isn't it? Not only the death, burial, and ressurection of Jesus. But also the events that took place during the crucifixion, the great earthquake, the 3 hours darkness, etc...

Shortly after, all of his apostles would willingly face cruel deaths. And because of what they believed, and all that they had seen, they did not fear.

Blessed is our LORD. Our risen king. Glory to Him!

Thanks for this nice post. We should thank God every second that he has provided us a way to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

This was under the old law of Moses.

The devil believes too....is he saved?

You have to do more than just believe to be saved.

he's kinda got a point.

Calling on the name of the Lord is a sure way. Not just calling but being deeply troubled and resulting to nothing but God, Not going to a friend or a doctor, just saying "Lord, Help me".

It's not just a matter of believing "In" the Lord, but believing "On" him. Being obedient and giving your life to Him

Ahha! This really makes you think now doesn't it? I'm going to use this as an example now of how you can be a big criminal and you repent and believe and you go to Heaven.

lol?

uhhh? I thnk you have been looking at christianity wrong bro. That is exactly how the Lord works. You can murder people, but if you repent and call on the name of the Lord and believe, you will be saved and go to heaven. Just as long as you don't continue your life murdering people.

You know the parable of the men who worked in the vineyard right? Every couple hours the savior goes and gets servants to work for the remainder of the day. He even hires some at the last hour and pays everyone the same. The one condition they all shared was the faithful service rendered in the vineyard. That shows that we can be saved if we believe at the final hour, but we must serve him from the moment we learn.

Exactly, which you won't if you're saved since he gives you a "new nature"

Remember the woman who was caught in adultery?
