So I'm not religious, I'm not anti-religion... but i wasn't raised in a religious family and I've never been to church.

I don't hide it, I'm open about my beliefs, however, I never claim anyone to be wrong about theirs...

My question is, Why is it every time I admit I've never been to church and that I am not religious do christians get offended... They take it as a sleight against god and their religion.

I NEVER get offended when people push their beliefs on me, I NEVER try to disprove people's religious beliefs... but whenever I admit to a christian that I am not religious they take offense.

Am I just meeting the wrong people, or is it in the bible that if someone does not believe in god that, as a good christian, you should try to change their beliefs?

this is a serious question, please no spam.

You are running into a lot of the wrong people, which really sucks. There are a lot of conservative "old school" Christians who think that you are either with them or against them sort of speak. The fact is that a Christian's goal shouldn't be to change you, but to love you just as Christ told us to love. The bible tells us 2 things. Go make disciples unto all nations. But it also tells us to love God and to love people. Sometimes loving people is not shoving your belief down their throat. I'm sorry you have run into people like this, because those are people who are doing more damage than they are good. My prayer is that you will come across someone who is real, and genuine about their faith, and will talk to you the way it was intended, and a way that truly reflects the presence of Christ in their life. Someone who is selfless.

If you believed that anyone who doesn't believe what you believe is doomed to an eternity of torture you'd be an asshole to not shove your beliefs down everyone's throats.

Unfortunately like it has been said, you have just run into the wrong people. I'm in the exact same boat, I'm not a believer(although I'm trying to) but I'm very respectful of other peoples beliefs. I never open my mouth and speak poorly to them about it, as I expect the same from them.

I've run into a few people who have been like that, practically disregarding me as a human being because I wasn't religious. But I've also run into a few people who were really cool about it.

So yeah.. just ignore those people

Everyone is different, and no one is perfect. God tells us to love one another such as he loved us. This is what a Christian should strive to be, but it is not always the case. When you say that you have never been to church and that you are not religious, i know if i heard someone say that, I have to say, I would be offended, but at the same time, it would not cause me to treat you any different. You making that statement is kind of like saying you dont even care about God. And you being that way is just a grip that the enemy has on you.
I just want to put this scripture out there..

"In whom the God of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." 2 Cor 4:4
this scripture is pretty just says that people who believe not have been blinded by the enemy into thinking that there is not God. The gospel of christ would show you the truth if you would just give it a chance.

That is indeed correct.

Christians don't get offended. I never went to church, and now here I am following Christ.

You don't need to be raised Christian to come to salvation.

i've been a part of 5 different churches. All are welcoming. I have observed them interacting with new members.
Why treat someone badly, when there is no reason?

almost anyone would

hell, look at islam, if you told them you didn't take part in their religion (which i dont beleive a relationship with Christ IS a religion but that's beside the point) they'll lop your head off

but you could also be taking concern to be offense. We know the truth, and we feel for those who are lost
