Doing good for the sake of being good is not what is appropriate; doing good because Jesus died on the cross for your sins and wanting to glorify him is the true reason.

So you can only be good for Jesus, not because it's simply the right thing to do?

You can't really have one without the other. Their both a reflection of whats in your heart and where Jesus dwells so does kindness and goodness.

Regarding your earlier question to prove the difference between secular goodness and Christian goodness:

Matthew 6:3

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing

What that is saying is when you do something good don't let the whole world is doing, but do it in secret, it's a personnel act of worship towards what Jesus stands for.

Would you guys agree with this statement?

Kindess is a thought process and goodness is acting upon that thought.

I agree with it. But isn't it possible for goodness to also be a thought process? It takes quite a bit to make a stand and decide that your actions will be good rather then bad.

Edit: I like the quote in your signature.

Well the question came up during a Bible study where we asked.. Why was the story of the Samaritan called the "good" samaritan and not the "kind" samaritan and we came to a conclusion that "action" separate goodness and kindness.
