That ends up with an economy that forever inflates, even if a certain amount of players holding on to a not so small amount of the total player base's resources haven't logged in for awhile (or never again which we can effectively count as "deleted resources")
I believe the devs had wanted a more "reactive" market where prices will always depend on the seller pricing it at a price point that current day players are able to pay for
Now when it comes to your dilemma, it's more on you to prove to today's playerbase that they want it, which should get the ball rolling on offers. If you already do this but just can't get a price you agree to then just hold on to whatever that piece is, and I hope you holding onto that piece becomes more worth it than the last highest offer you got
