Trying to figure this out with a friend, do I need to be in the trial from the begining?

Or can I join in at the end when boss is ready, I couldnt seem to do this!

I just tried to do this with my friend and i couldnt figure it out.
From what i've gathered you have to save and exit before the final boss (Clear the room before the boss but do not click boss picture on room chooser yet) and then relog, party up, let them go into boss room first. (If they get locked out I heard they can come in after boss dies)
I haven't tried yet since reading the info about it.

Clear up until boss. At room selector just before final boss, click the leave button instead of next room. Invite friend, fire run back up. Kill boss. Profit.

Thx mate, we ended up just AFKing inside the actual trial, TPing out and rentering together. worked fine but not quite the same efficiency!

does this work for a char with 0 ascendancy? like they sit in the trial and then after 4th ascendancy boss is killed, the character gets all 8 ascendancy points?

Yes. You get all the points up to the highest challenge being completed.
