Hi,

I'm currently presenting to my boss to tell him why an enterprise medical application (heavy search traffic, lots of data, lots of videos), should be done built from the ground-up with Full-Stack JavaScript (Node, react/angular, ect).

Could someone help me find some firm points on why Wordpress is just not the best solution for big enterprisey apps?

Thank you!

Wordpress is a blogging platform written in php, the most insecure language possible. Show him thousands of bugs and remote exploits wordpress suffered over the years.

And then tell him nodejs is also a bad idea and should instead look into something more mature, statically typed, designed to handle the load etc. Java, Scala or Go would be my choices.

The only thing I can think of way Nodejs is not ideal for this type of app is because it's single-threaded, but, with elastic-search integrated in the server, it will be up to speed for atleast alpha/beta phase.

Oh god elasticsearch. Do you know what kind of pain you're getting yourself into? Nodejs and elastic search may sound good on the surface but it is a world of pain.

Use real database like postgres and language that doesn't fight you on every step.

Elastic search and relational databases serve different purposes.

Elasticsearch is not memcached, it's normal database. It does have efficient search built into it but it also doesn't make it something like sphinx.

And basing enterprise medical database on nodejs and elastic? Good fucking luck

Why are you doing architectural design for an enterprise medical application if you can't even research this on your own?

You didn't give us nearly enough information about what your product does to do your job for you. We would need to know the type of data, how it is being used, by who, and why.

WordPress is the wrong medium for almost all enterprise applications.

Php for enterprise is not a good idea. Javascript (nodejs) on the server side was a bad idea from day one, which is why its pretty much being abandoned by google themselves, for Golang. Sounds like you have alot to think about with a problem of this size, but maybe look at Java and the Spring stack.

I was thinking the same thing. Im a SQL Server guy, but i have heard alot of good things about postgres. With something like a medical database, dont give up the reliability of a RDMS for something like NoSQL without considering the implications.

I would disagree that an enterprise medical application should be written in a javascript stack.
