I posted this in General and Donor forum for more coverage.

TL;DR - I tried everything I could find, my PC and internet are
DEFINITELY good enough, server shows up, but I can't join.
Will pay FG for a *definitive* fix

So I got the new Conan Exiles on day 1 (awesome game, btw) and i was playing local/co-op (aka LAN game) with 4 of my buddies, and we were
experiencing terrible lag. We couldn't split up too far or the game just started moving people and making it impossible to explore independently.

Well, fast forward 6 hours, and it turns out that we weren't lagging at all (which relieved me, because my PC and internet package never lags)
it was a group tethering. This makes it so that nobody can free roam, they're restricted to within 100 ft of me, since my rig is best for hosting.
It's a hot rod, check stats @ the bottom.

We did some google investigatory work, and found a post by the creators of the game (via Steam forums) that tethering was used to help out
people with low end PCs - the game world (when playing local CooP) phases into, and out of, existence around the host - if the other players
were allowed to run around alone, they would experience an empty world. This is solved in one of two ways - official servers, full of players
from all over the place and trolls and other forms of Nope, or a private server where I can set the world to be static, and delete the tethers,
rather than having it constantly populating the world in around me.

I did some more Google Sherlocking, and found out that you can pay to run large dedicated servers for at little as like $12 a month, but I don't
want to have to pay just for me and a handful of friends to play the game. We had about given up when I found a thread about setting up a
free, albeit, complex, server right through Steam. Score. After, yet, more digging, I found out that the Conan e-manual actually has steps to
set up a private server right through Steam, even they knew that people would want to escape the tethers (which begs the question, why even
bother adding them if you know people will hate it, but that is a question for a future date.)

That guide is found here http://cdn.edgecast.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/440900/manuals/ConanExiles_TechManual.pdf?t=1486201681 pages
3 and 4. I followed those (I admit that I had to look some stuff up, like how to open a terminal on a specific window) but I eventually got it all to
where I got from start to finish without a hiccup. I got to the part where it reads "Currently, if you try to start the dedicated server build from
the steam client, you will get some error messages about steam DLLs. This is not the recommended way to start your server, but it should still work
if you skip past the error messages." but then it just jumps right to the Admit Controls.

I launch the sandbox server, and I can get it to show up in the Steam Server list under LAN (which is all that really matters) but not the list under
"Internet" which means that my server is THERE, but it isn't public. Yes, I have a password on it, but servers with passwords still show up on that
list, so that isn't the issue. So I didn't give up, I did even more Google Sherlocking, and I found another step by step guide, which outlined those
exact same steps, but with one added step - to use the BATCH file in my install file to launch the server. When I do that, I get mostly white text,
but a few red lines (mostly consisting of missing textures) but it does say that the server launched. Excellent.

Still doesn't show up in the Steam server list under "Internet" tab, but it still does under the "LAN" tab. This time, however, I right clicked the server
through the LAN tab and clicked "Join Game" - after which, it immediately popped up with my password box. Sweet. I typed it in, the game launches,
I squeal a little bit on the inside, the game gets to the main menu, and then. Nothing. It just launches the game straight to the main menu. Being how
I am, I was undeterred and clicked "join server" to check the in game server list, but it isn't there. I tried every combination of typing in the server
name that I designated, and just searching all servers, but there aren't even any public servers up yet apparently. Or, for some reason, they just
aren't populating on my side, which could be the fix to this whole issue.

I've done all kinds of digging and Ive hit dead end after dead end, but I have made at least some progress, because, as I stated above, the server
does launch, I just can't get into the game. I'm not a programmer, but I can follow directions as far as adding anything that may help. I'm not PC
illiterate, so I can easily find my way around. I'm happy to pay if somebody can give me a *definitive* fix to this so that my friends and I can play
in peace. Yes we're pussies because we don't like people messing with our progress while we are offline, yes we hate PVP in survival games, and
yes we just want to play with a small handful of us un-tethered, that's why I'm doing this. I prefer to build, couple others prefer to farm, and one of
us likes to go PVM using the gear we farm and craft, but none of us like being ganked for no reason or having our stuff blown up or stolen while we
are offline or at work, that's why we don't play ARK.

lol dumb guy is dumb. It's not an illegal third party, it's Steam. Sanctioned servers through steam and sanctioned by Conan staff. Try again wannabe mod.

Can you say how, for future reference of anyone who might have the same problem?
