So I'm one of thous people who decided to stay with Windows 7 instead of opting for a free upgrade to Windows 10.
I believe W10 is the better operating software but i like the control W7 gives more, but W7 Cant last forever aka 2020.

So to though's Linux Users/Ubuntu what is the difference between the 2, which one is better, and is it possible to make linux/ubuntu work like Windows?

I have used Ubuntu back in my high school days but i never really got into it so i hope this does not come of as a stupid question thanks.

p.s
can you have the gaming compatibility like windows?

Are you asking if linux or ubuntu is better? Because ubuntu IS linux. If we want to be picky, linux is actually a core part around which there are many many programs and libraries to make fully usable desktop - and ubuntu is one of them.

Depending on what you mean "work like windows" the answer may vary. Yes you still double click icon to launch firefox, there is huge selection of programs, but installing them is different (instead of going to random sites you pick from a list, basically), and system settings etc will look completely different.

I could argue there is no "best" version and all have its pros and cons but for the sake of this topic I'll say to just install ubuntu as that's the best one. Oh, you can also test it without installing, just make bootable pendrive and start from it.

What sounds complicated though? Double click to start firefox or clicking "install" next to program you want?

Ubuntu is a steam supported OS. Keep in mind that you can't just take any old windows PC game and install it on Linux, the are ways to do it but it's not always easy.

For Linux, I prefer Linux mint. It's based off of Ubuntu, so they are very close, but I prefer it over Ubuntu.

i'm not very familiar with linux, but i went for linux mint a few years ago when i bought an SSD. if you're not very linux savvy and you dont wanna put in effort to make things work, i'd recommend not getting it.

as an example, it took me quite a bit of effort to get flash working. then a few months later, a new version of chrome came out which supported some of it. so i upgraded my chrome and all the flash was super laggy. i could never figure out how to revert back to my older chrome, so i had to switch to the older version of chromium (v34). flash went back to normal, but some things still don't work quite right. all the buttons on twitch disappeared (full screen, settings, etc). having similar problems on firefox. i now have the latest chrome installed, but it crashes after a minute or two.

i could probably put in more effort to get it working as well as it does on windows, but i dont care enough. i dont wanna make things worse if it's usable for me.

IMO, stick with windows and just launch Ubuntu in a virtual box VM. This way you can try it out first and see if you like it.

But I think that getting software to work on Linux is a pain in the ass and not worth it for a home computer.

steam works just fine, but only 43 of top 100 games have official support. If you're gamer type, windows is still the way to go.

You still can just try it out from pendrive, no catches, risking nothing. Reboot from pendrive, click around, if you don't like just reboot and remove pendrive.

what is this mythical "software"? Most home users need facebook machine. If you need specialized software, okay. But if you're typical home user, there is nothing lacking in linux world.

Should probably reformat. Mint has been compromised a handful of times the last year.
