Yep, what title says.... I want a friend to learn java with, where we can help each other out if we get stuck....
I have a book we can use.... free to use.....

This will give us both incentive to not be lazy, +a social factor, so it'll be fun. Let me know if anyone is interested!

look for a local meetup. or reddit. or a community college. or anywhere but here. heck, you'd probably find a better candidate at a church or soup kitchen.

i know there are meetups in my area, but dunno about yours. 'free code camp' has a lot of groups in different regions, but it's mostly targeted at people who want to start out as web devs.

i'll vouche the community college most of the professors at community colleges work day shifts as programmers and teach a class at night for some extra cash and it's like 50$ a credit hour if you're part time

you can buy a book and teach yourself but at least my first professor made us write a full program and like 70-100 statements every week on top of a quizz and the bookwork

plus if you take at least 4 or more classes at comunity college you qualify for pell grant which is conveniently around $1500-2000 roughly the exact cost of community college per semester after books n shit
just about every college has a programming fundamentals class in java or c++

i took my first programming class ever last spring and i just got hired for a software engineer internship

i'm a little surprised by that. if they're experienced programmers, they'd probably earn more cash programming.

teaching an online class at community college requires no work and pays pretty well, also at least the community college i went to was part of the school district so they get all the perks of government employment like discounted higher education etc

besides everyone's got their own shit going on, one of my professors at cc had 12 kids, another was working on his doctorate, another was a retired dba. at least the school i went to seemed to prioritize experience over education alot of professors with just bachelors degrees.
but having seen both i felt like the teachers at the cc were more interested in teaching than some professors at university that just need to make sure they fail enough people every semester

There's a ton of free online courses as well, although they are a bit slow IMO, they'll teach you the basics and what you need to know to advance farther.

You can also find a ton of projects from colleges online, which is a great way to practice the concepts you learn.
