mysql, nosql, xml, swing, etc... stuff like that.... Anyone any ideas? Mostly stuff that will help me get a job programming java someday, and yes i know that's way down the road, but i like to have everything mapped out

i recommend you focus less on that and more on programming. pick some projects that interest you and work on them. get some experience researching and solving problems you come across.

Android is pretty good. You'd have to really understand OOP to fully take advantage of the sdk.

JPA (Java Persistence API) / Eclipselink
GWT (Google Web Toolkit)
Some other web frameworks. For example: Spring, JSF, or Vaadin
JNA (Java Native Access) (need to learn c/c++ as well for this)
