Anyone very familiar with internet marketing? There are a lot of cool resources and guides out there for marketing your website in terms of building backlinks and getting a social media following; however, most of it tends to be outdated with resources that are no longer applicable.

For those who have went through the process, I have some questions if you'd like to share:

How did you build backlinks to your site?
What main struggles did you have?
What process generated the best results for you?
Did social media help drive traffic to your site?

back links and social media are just small pieces of the pie, mostly what helps is constant new content. a good way to do this is by blogs or reviews ect, obviously this is subjective based on what the site is for. for example if you have site about shoes, linking to several shoe blogs and having shoe reviews and comments on your site will greaty increase seo rankings.

The best way to promote a website is building a valuable content that people will link back to and go back to. Sites with good content position themselves.

That's true over a long period of time. This could take upwards of a year before content alone drives traffic through ranking.

Seo rankings in general take a long time. if your trying to get a first page ranking over night, its just not going to happen.

Not necessarily. There are few cases where a new blog posting goes viral and ranks up fast because of all the shares it has all over the web. It's a very rare instance, but I agree that generally it takes at least 6 months to drive traffic unless you found an amazing niche.
