I know of a few guys programming a Source mod in C++ and they seem to be understaffed. I figured I might be able to get into something similar but as the only programming background I have is Python and Visual Basic my knowledge is very limited. I'm wanting to broaden my horizons and currently studying under the Computer Science Major and will have to get into C++ later. I want to know what some of the popular learning areas are and if there are things like Codeacademy/Khanacademy for C++ as there was for Java/Python/Ruby/CSS etc...

All help appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Don't expect to jump head first into C++ and a game engine if you have only learned python. Scripting languages do not compare really to type heavy languages like C++. As for learning I would just pick a project and start creating it. If you know python well enough to understand programming logic, learning C++ will be fairly easy since you should have learned by now basic google fu and how to structure questions to obtain answers you need.
