Out of curiosity. Applies to anyone who has a job where they read / write / interpret / understand some kind of programming language or code.

I voted option 2...though I technically start the first week of January for my full time.

I only did one internship.

I didn't really work outside of that (except 1 year as a student worker at CC)

I graduate in december.

There's no option for "I just showed up one day, and stayed until they forgot they weren't supposed to be paying me."

You likely won't get a job without going to college and learning only a little on your own. Unless you do as minko says or join in with the chain smokers in the janitors closet for 9$ an hour. Where is "study a lot on your own then get a job"?

Having connections trumps college degree. Experience trumps degree.

Buddy of mine has a degree in Business. All self taught. He's working for Amazon now. He worked for Curse for a while, which was kind of cool back when we all played WoW.

this, my ex's cousin got a job paying 75k / year when he was 19 because his dad knew someone. He was in his first year of university and couldn't even program for shit



Also, I got a job right out of college, but it was a small startup company (got paid peanuts). I worked there for a few months, but the experience helped me get my next job.

i had a job lined up 6 months in advance before graduation. software engineering degree though so not quite CS

Software engineering is a part of Computer Science.

I'm blessed in that I have my GI Bill, Hazelwood Act, and Vacation Rehabilitation, all from being in the US Army.

GI Bill - 36 months of school paid with stipend.
Vocation Rehabilitation - 24? months of school paid with stipend.
Hazelwood Act (Texas USA only) - 150 credit hours. (probably no stipend)

I'm hoping to have a degree and a job by the time I hit my Hazelwood Act. Going to go Saint Mary's here in San Antonio Texas because they have a bachelor's and master's of software engineering and not just a CS with a concentration.

Anyone have any advice for my situation so I make sure I take full advantage of everything I have offered?

Plan it out. Graduate programs are more expensive that under grad, try and save some of that funding for your masters. I didn't plan well, and I'm on my last semester of gi Bill funding and haven't started a grad program yet.
