Will I be able to develop and run apps with an emulator with my current laptop specs?
Laptop:
intel i5-4200u
ram = 3.89 ram available
windows 8.1

My friend told me I would not be able to run the code and see my result on an emulator because the emulator is too resource hungry and therefore will not run on my laptop.
Is this true?
I am looking to develop an application so please let me know if it is possible.

it's free...why dont you just give it a try? set it up and run hello world. if you can't figure out how to do that, you got bigger problems than an old laptop.

i got it working 2 years ago with a 4 year old laptop on xp. it wasnt the greatest experience, but it worked. back then the emulator sucked. took forever to start up and it was laggy. it was faster for me to deploy to my phone. i hope they've improved the emulator since then.

yea the last time I played with it was a year ago on a laptop that was (at that time) 4 years old running ubuntu. Was very slow. I think you'd be fine though

Alright, ty.
@carte
Setting everything up takes a good amount of time and work so I knew some people on here would have already done it before. Therefore, I thought.... what's the harm is asking? It's not cause I'm lazy... just seemed smart to ask.

Dang I think I forgot to say... the main problem that my friend said he had was that windows 8 was the reason why the emulator did not work on his comp. He had Genymotion.
Whatever the case, ill install and do the hello world code by tomorrow night.

I ran the android emulator over the summer on my laptop which has similar specs to yours. The emulator took ages to actually launch but once it was up and running it was slow but it worked fine. If you have an android phone I recommend just using that but the emulator will do the job for ya.
