I want to know what languages to focus the most on. I'm thinking maybe Java, C/C++, and maybe Objective C?

Just generic software engineering. I live near DC so a lot of the jobs I could get would be government related things. Like a cousin of mine graduated the same college I go to and he works for Northrop Grumman now.

The question is still vague. Programming Langauges are just tools. That is like asking someone what 3 tools you should carry? Screwdriver, wrench, hammer? Sure those might be usable in a very broad range of areas, but specific jobs require specific tools. It is going to be very hard to cut down that tree without a saw. You gonna chisel away at it with that Hammer? It's doable, it just isn't ideal.

To illustrate my point in context of your question, you mentioned government jobs are abundant in your area. Well, a lot of government contracts will require knowledge of the Ada programming language as it is what the DoD standardized on back in the 70s. In fact, I believe it was created specifically for the DoD. Ever heard of it? Probably not. Will you use it anywhere else outside of government contracting? Probably not. Would I have even mentioned it if you hadn't mentioned government related jobs? Probably not.

Java if you wanna be a corporate dev monkey, C if you wanna code drivers and systems, C++ if you want a migraine, and Objective-C if you want to be a hip Indie dev startup and make crap on OS X/iOS.

Best for a Job, probably Java, may want to learn a scripting language instead of Objective-Crap, and something like C/C++

Java, Javascript and C/C++

As a software developer, I use these three the most. Java for general software development, Javascript for mobile development, and C/C++ for native access.
