If I wanted to try to get a job with computers a couple years from now,
which newbie friendly programming language would open the most doors
for me to find any kind of programming job?

Please include why you are recommending this language as well.

--------

I already put my foot into python a little bit but i'm afraid it won't be very useful for finding
jobs and would require me having to learn a second programming language immediately afterwards
so i'm considering going for something else instead. Maybe Java?

If you don't wanna keep learning new things, then i got bad news for you. you're going into the wrong career.

java is fine.

you might wanna learn some web development as well. html/css/javascript + server side of your choice.

I mean that I want to open up entry level job opportunities as soon as possible, i'm not saying I would stop at just one language.

(Example = I would rather learn Mandarin before I learned Taiwanese due to it being a more commonly used spoken language)

Well, in fact it's much more easier to learn a new programming language when you already know how to program.
I started with python and it's a nice and easy language to learn. The synthax is very light so you can focus more on "problem solving skills training" rather than debugging your synthax mistakes :p

I agree with carteblanche. Atm, html+css+javascript is THE combo to get an fast an easy job but you should really try to change your mentality because computer science is a fucking enormous topic and it's not something that you can learn and *pouf* no more learning needed anymore. You've got to update your knowledge to new shit and there are a ton of it.

I don't really like java, I think it's an old and over rated technology.

this may be useful :http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html

tip: if you are serious about this, get a mac or linux, learning the shell is a must have with github imo.

based on your goals, i suggest learning a little bit of multiple languages for job flexibility. go learn some C#, java, javascript, python, etc. no reason to spend all your time becoming a java guru if you want more opportunities.

Ruby on Rails.

Bunch of RoR development if you search job search sites.
