Yup, looking to have a bootable flash drive that i can throw into a pc and boot into windows (probably win 7 is most preferred). I think the problem comes in with making it persistent so that changes I make during the session will save to the usb so if I install programs or download things, they will be there the next time i boot up.

Does anyone know a fairly simple solution for this?

A close second would maybe be a way to take a current windows I have (all programs and files i would want included) and make that into a bootable usb. I think it would be similar to a save point or check point (can't remember what its called) in vmware but that you could make bootable usb.

I know this might not necessarily be a programming problem (I assume there are premade programs to help with this, but I haven't found yet), but I figured I'd ask here.

thanks for any help people may provide

There is this software I used back in the day called Mojopac, was kind of a portable windows xp that was runnable from the OS, and you had your programs, files etc maybe google that.

Otherwise I know you can install windows on a usb drive for installing it quicker than from a cd but Im not sure about using it and persisting changes.

Another possibility would be to carry around a portable version of Virtualbox or something like that, not sure if it actually exists though

/e turns out mojopac can still be found around, see http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MojoPac

/e2 you can also look into Hopedot VOS though its not free

tyvm, i'll have to check these options out. Looking to basically have a bootable usb so i can have all my mining setup for whichever computer I work on, and maybe make copies for friends with their mining computers. Worst case scenario I could probably use Win 8 (win to go i believe), but I believe the requirements of win 8 are more troublesome.

do you just need to save an image? shouldn't be that difficult if that's the case. but if you need to store stuff on the fly, why not just carry a hard drive around?

meh, hard drives are more trouble to carry, I tend to carry a flash drive or two around with me anywhere. Would be nice to just have a flash drive where i can show people my setup and/or use it in a mining rig so you don't need to buy an internal hard drive.
